ACC Programme 2018

Here are the activities for the year. All internal events are held at St Michael's Centre, NP7 5UD, between 7:30pm and 9:30pm.

07-Jan (Sun) Red Square Exhibition We've booked the Red Square exhibition window in Abergavenny for 2 weeks (hoping to attract new members!). It would be nice to get photos from everyone in. Please contact Dave if you have a print or two we can use.
08-Jan AGM and Test your photos! We'll start the evening with an accelerated AGM - snow stopped play before Christmas. The main event is: Are you thinking about entering photos for competitions? Do you need some ideas about these? Bring your images along for constructive criticism from other members before you enter them. Bring up to a couple each of digital and prints.
21-Jan (Sun) Memorial Trophies External competition. Abergavenny club are entering this competition so do come along if you can. Shelone Road Community Centre, Shelone Rd, Briton Ferry, Neath SA11 2NS. From 10am. Rules here.
22-Jan The Gwent Levels with David Broadbent The Gwent Levels is an outstanding nature reserve right on our doorstep. David has taken amazing photographs there and will be showing these while talking about how you, too, can produce such photos. Bring your prints in for the 05-Feb open competition.
05-Feb Open Competition judged by Bob Steadman, AWPF Here's our first open competition of the year. Good luck and enjoy everyone's entries.
19-Feb Wild Tigers, with Talvinder Chohan Talvinder is a remarkable photographer who has extensively photographed tigers in India. Here he tells their story whilst covering documentary, landscape, portraiture and action photography through his varying experiences and encounters in those beautiful jungles. Tiger images will be discussed in terms of light, composition, technical qualities and situation.
05-Mar Member Evening: Our Members in Action Last September, a group of our photographers wowed the Abergavenny Jazz Festival with the quality of their photos. We also take photos for other events too. Tonight, we'll have a grand showing and discussion about all these.
11 to 25-Mar Red Square Exhibition We're showing the photos we took in the Wall2Wall Jazz Festival last September. This is in collaboration with the Jazz Club and sponsored by Shackleton's.
19-Mar Member Evening: Half-hour Sessions Tonight it's over to you. We're looking for three members to spend half an hour each presenting something. It can be showng your images, demonstrating photography, or whatever you like! Come along to an evening of different and interesting talks.(Talk 1 booked: Ken) Bring in your prints for the next 09-Apr open competition.
09-Apr Open Panel Competition, judged by Peter Young, CPAGB, AFIAP, APAGB The second open competition of the year, with 3 to 5 images in each of Print and Digital panels (please also include image for each class of all images in class in order of display). Prints should have been in on previous 19-Mar meeting.
23-Apr How to Make a Photograph with Jack Tait Jack is a not just a photographer. He founded two schools of thought in the subject while lecturing in the famous Guildford College. He even built his own cameras. In this talk he will be using Still Life as a fundamental route to exploring the detail of photography. Guaranteed to make you think!.
12-May (Sat) Only Mono External competition, held at St Paul's Centre, in Port Talbot. Organized by Gareth Martin and his Cymru Mono group. Last year more than 100 people went to this from 41 clubs that entered from all over the UK.
21-May Member Evening: Show and Tell (anything!) An evening to show things to one another. It can be photos, photo techniques, photo editing tricks or anything. Bring in your prints for the next 04-Jun open competition
04-Jun Open Monochrome Competition judged by Johnnie Rogers, ARPS DPAGB AWPF AFIAP Our third competition of the year is open to any image - as long as it is monochrome. Tints such as sepia are allowed, but no 'colour'.
18-Jun Photographs as Objects with Molly Caenwyn Tonight we will have a stimulating and challenging talk from Molly Caenwyn, a photographic historian who looks deeply into the meaning of photography. She will explore the photograph as an object, looking at the materiality of photographs. She will consider this in her own art practise using the cyanotype photographic process and caffenol film developing.

Abergavenny Arts Festival We're collaborating with other artists in this new festival. We'll be holding a free walk-in exhibition (prints and projected images) with free portrait session. This wil be held in the Methodist Hall, Castle Street.
02-Jul Photo Walk Out and about together in this Summer's evening, a walk somewhere nearby, probably ending up at a delightful pub! Bring your camera kit.
16-Jul Member's night: Other people's pictures We'll be looking at pictures by people by other people, from outside the club. tonight. There'll be a good range which we can openly critize, be amazed at and wonder if we could do something similar.
Jul-Aug Summer Break Get out there, have fun, and take lots of photographs!
03-Sep What I did last Summer Bring as many pictures as you like, digital or print, and be ready to spend five minutes talking about them. Bring the images you want to show.
17-Sep Every Picture Tells a Story with Andy Beel, FRPS Andy has long been a master photographer and this talk will take us on a journey through his life and quite remarkable work. Bring prints for the 01-Oct competition.
01-Oct Open competition judged by Vince Penticost, AWPF Here's our second completely open competitions, so you can bring whatever images you like!
15-Oct Member evening: Photo editing An evening about editing your photos, with tips and techniques for people at all levels. With Dave Straker.
29-Oct Marvellous Monmouthshire with Phil Savoie Our local countryside; its wildlife, landscape and people offer a visual feast as seen through the lens of an award winning Monmouth based cinematographer. Phil will share images and tips to better your own photography.Bring your prints for the theme competition on 12-Nov.

External competition Gwynfa Pixels. At Talbot Green Community Centre, Llantrisant. 2:30pm.
12-Nov Theme Competition: Sport judged by Dave Bennett. The fourth competition of the year is this time on the theme of sport, so do pick your best digital and printed images for this. Maybe go along to sports events over the summer or earlier in the year? It's a good excuse for a day out!
26-Nov Member evening: Pixel photo review Like last year, we'll have a showing of all the images from the Welsh 'Pixels' competition. It's always good to see images other people have done.
10-Dec AGM and fun competition We round off the year with the AGM and the usual informal and hilarious competition. Bring your fun images!.
