ACC Programme 2019

Here are the activities for the year. All internal events are held at St Michael's Centre, NP7 5UD, between 7:30pm and 9:30pm.

07-Jan Show your photos! Are you thinking about entering photos for competitions? Do you need some ideas about these? Bring your images along for constructive criticism from other members before you enter them.Bring a couple or so, each of digital and prints.
20-Jan (Sun) External competition: Memorial Trophies External competition. Abergavenny club are entering this competition so do come along if you can. Briton Ferry Community Centre, Shelone Rd, Briton Ferry, Neath SA11 2NS. From 10am. Rules here.
21-Jan Zoo Photography with Talvinder Chohan Tal gave very a popular talk last year about photographing tigers in India, so we invited him back. This year he's closer to home, showing us how zoos offer amazing potential for wildlife photography. Bring your prints in for the 04-Feb open competition.
04-Feb Open Competition judged by Keith Sharples, CPAGB, BPE3* Here's our first open competition of the year. Good luck and enjoy everyone's entries.
18-Feb A Trip to the Tropics with Phil Savoie Phil is a brilliant photographer, last year he gave one of the most popular talks the club has ever had. An international award winning cameraman, ex BBC Natural History Unit staff, Phil's work and informative presentation skill outstanding. He’s back to take us to the rainforest – a evening not to miss.
04-Mar Member Evening: Image of the Year, 2018 Last year our members entered many great photographs into our competitions that all deserve to be seen and discussed again. Tonight, we get to decide which ones we like and the Digital and Print images of the year will be chosen.
18-Mar 40/40 with Roy Carr Roy will be showing 40 colour prints and 40 monochrome prints, largely on a landscape theme, but there are plenty of surprises thrown in. The presentation will include tales behind the images which will help to bring them to life. Bring in your prints for the next 01-Apr open competition.
01-Apr Open Monochrome Competition judged by Leigh Woolford, FWPF, DPAGB, EFIAP, AWPF, BPE2*. Our third competition of the year is open to any image - as long as it is monochrome. Tints such as sepia are allowed, but no 'colour'.
15-Apr Julie's Journey Our very own Julie Morgan gained her Associate of the Welsh Photographic Federation (AWPF) last year. In this engaging talk, Julie will be charting her course to this honour and perhaps helping inspire some of us to likewise seek this award.
29-Apr Sharing Expertise In a different format to usual, this evening we will have some of our more experienced members sat at tables, offering ideas, advice and showing anyone who comes along some interesting things. We can then move around, chatting, sharing and learning. Would you care to own a table? Please let Dave know if you do. Bring in your prints for the next 13-May open competition
18-May (Sat) External competition: Only Mono External competition, held at St Paul's Centre, in Port Talbot. Organized by Gareth Martin and his Cymru Mono group. Last year more than 100 people went to this from 41 clubs that entered from all over the UK.
13-May Open Panel Competition, judged by Bryan Pilot, LRPS The second open competition of the year, with 3 to 5 images in each of Print and Digital panels (please also include image for each class showing all photos in class, in order of display). Prints should have been in on previous 19-Mar meeting.
8-Jun (Sat) External competition: Barrian Cup Come along to the Barrian Cup at 2pm on Sat 8th June at St Francis Millennium Hall, 7 Porth y Castell, Barry CF62 6QA.
03-Jun Member evening: Colour in Eye, Camera, Computer and Print with Dave Straker Getting colour consistent and correct, from your camera through your computer to the printer is not an easy process. Dave will be talking about his journey through this minefield, from theory to practice.
17-Jun Natureship with Rob Cottle and Geraint Radford Rob and Geraint are self-confessed wildlife fanatics who have travelled widely and waited patiently in search of that special nature shot. Tonight we'll get to hear about their passion and see some of the beautiful fruits of their art.

Abergavenny Arts Festival We're collaborating with other artists again in this festival. We'll be holding a free walk-in exhibition (prints and projected images) with free portrait session. This wil (probably) be held in the Methodist Hall, Castle Street.
01-Jul Photo Walk Out and about together in this Summer's evening, a walk somewhere nearby, probably ending up at a delightful pub! Bring your camera kit.
15-Jul Member's night: What would you like? We'll be doing something fun, interesting and relaxing tonight, before the Summer break. What will that be? Come along and find out!
Jul-Aug Summer Break Get out there, have fun, and take lots of photographs!
02-Sep What I did last Summer Bring as many pictures as you like, digital or print, and be ready to spend five minutes talking about them. Bring the images you want to show.
16-Sep A Slice of Life with Dave Mason Dave Mason is an experienced street photographer, where he seeks to capture honest, human moments, reflecting the realities of life. Street photography is not a pastime for the unready. You need to be alert to the moment and have the courage to capture truth as it happens. 30-Sep Open competition judged by Les Loosemore, ARPS DPAGB AWPF Here's our second completely open competitions, so you can bring whatever images you like!
8-Oct (Tuesday) External event: Welsh Landscapes with Alan Parfitt Not a club event, but well worth attending. Here at St Michael's Centre, starting 7:30pm. Organised by the Abergavenny Group of the Gwent Wildlife Trust. Admission only £3. More details: Christine Bayliss, 01873 852036
14-Oct Member evening: Studio Photography Did you know we have two sets of studio lights you can borrow? Tonight we'll be setting them up so we can all have a go. Members with their own kit may also bring these along to show how we can build a home setup.
28-Oct Photojournalism: Stories from the Road with Chris Fairweather Chris is a professional photographer who has covered events and stories from international rugby to royal visits. He knows the criticality of getting the shot and has a wealth of stories he will share tonight about how he is successful in this high-pressure role.Bring your prints for the theme competition on 11-Nov.
02-Nov (Sat) External competition: Pixels Gwynfa Pixels. At Talbot Green Community Centre, Llantrisant. 2:30pm.
11-Nov Theme Competition: Industry judged by Lyn James, LRPS. The fourth competition of the year is this time on the theme of industry, so do pick your best digital and printed images for this. Maybe go along to historic sites over the summer or earlier in the year? It's a good excuse for a day out!
25-Nov Member evening: Pixels pictures Last year we had a really interesting evening looking at, discussing, being amazed and criticising the images from the Gwynfa Pixels competition. We'll do this again tonight. Who knows, we may even find inspiration :)
09-Dec AGM and fun competition We round off the year with the AGM and the usual informal and hilarious competition. Bring your fun images!.
